When you visit our website echeloncatapult.org and register for any of our STEM courses, we appreciate that you are trusting us with your personal information. We take your privacy very seriously. In our privacy policy, we will explain to you in the clearest way possible what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have in regards to the information and data that we collect. We hope you take some time to read through this document carefully, as it is important. If there are any terms in this privacy notice that you do not agree with, please contact us at team@echeloncatapult.org and we will find a solution. 

This privacy policy applies to all of information collected through our registration forms when you first register for a course, as well as, any related marketing or events.

Please read this privacy policy carefully as it will help you understand what we do with the information that we collect from you and your respective student.

1. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

We collect personal information that you provide to us.

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on Echelon Catapult course registration forms (though the Google Forms service), express an interest in obtaining information about us or our courses, or otherwise when you contact us.

The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and our courses. The personal information we collect may include the following:

Personal Information Provided by You and Your Student
We collect both parent and student first and last names; parent phone number; parent and student email addresses; student gender identity; student grade; student school and school district; student race and ethnicity. 
Parents/guardians have the option to decline to answer student gender identity and student race/ethnicity for privacy reasons. These personal informations are collected through a Google Form service, which we use for all of our course registrations.

Payment Data 
We may collect data necessary to process your payment if you make purchases to take Echelon Catapult courses, such as your payment instrument number (such as a credit card number), and the security code associated with your payment instrument. All payment data is stored by our fiscal sponsor, the Aerospace Museum of California. You may find their privacy notice link(s) here: https://aerospaceca.org/privacy-policy/

2. HOW DO WE USE YOUR INFORMATION?

We use your personal information from these registration forms to compile student demographics and for use on our various social media accounts: Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and LinkedIn. 

We use personal information collected via our course registration Google Forms for a variety of business purposes described below. We indicate the specific processing grounds we rely on next to each purpose listed below.

We use the information we collect or receive:

  • To post student testimonials on our social media account. We post testimonials on our Website and social media that may contain a student’s first name. Our social media platforms are Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. On these platforms, Echelon Catapult will share students' success in the respective course and how our student teachers have developed over their time instructing. Our other social media platform, Youtube, is to record our respective course sessions. Thus, students have the ability to watch our course in the future or if they miss class one day. Prior to posting a testimonial, we will obtain your consent to use the student's first name and the content of the testimonial. If you wish to update, or delete your testimonial, please contact us at team@echeloncatapult.org and be sure to include your name and contact information.

  • Request feedback. We may use your information to request course feedback via a Google Form and to contact you about the courses that your child has taken. Student and/or parent name is optional and you have the option to decline to answer.

  • To enable student-to-student communications. With both parent and student consent, Echelon Catapult provides the opportunity for students to message each other on the Echelon Catapult Discord Server. Students must have parent and/or guardian consent to create an account under Discord. The minimum age to access Discord is 13. 

  • To send you marketing and promotional communications. We and/or our third-party marketing partners, Facebook advertising, Yet Another Mail Merge Email Communications (YAMM), may use the personal information you send to us for our marketing purposes, if this is in accordance with your marketing preferences. For example, when expressing an interest in obtaining information about us or our Website, subscribing to marketing or otherwise contacting us, we will collect personal information from you. 

  • Deliver targeted advertising to you. We target the Greater Sacramento Area and the outlying school districts through Gmail communications through Yet Another Mail Merge (YAMM) and Social Media (Facebook Advertising). Our courses are recommended for students in grades two through ten. 



3. WILL YOUR INFORMATION BE SHARED WITH ANYONE?

We only share information with your consent, to comply with laws, and to protect your rights.

We may process or share your data that we hold based on the following legal basis:

  • Consent: We may process your data if you have given us consent to use your personal information for a specific purpose, and when you register for courses. Upon registration, your information is collected and stored in the Echelon Catapult database. The only persons with access to this information is our highly trained Echelon Catapult instructor team.  

  • Legitimate Interests: We may process your data when it is reasonably necessary to achieve our legitimate business interests. Your data may be used for statistics and demographics seen on the website. These statistics include race/ethnicity numbers, gender identity numbers, and how many students have registered for our courses. These student demographics will never include individual student information. These statistics are included in our biannual board reports to the Aerospace Museum of California as well. 

  • Legal Obligations: We may disclose your information where we are legally required to do so in order to comply with applicable law, governmental requests, a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process, such as in response to a court order or a subpoena (including in response to public authorities to meet national security or law enforcement requirements).

  • Vital Interests: We may disclose your information where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding potential violations of our policies, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person and illegal activities, or as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.

More specifically, we may need to process your data or share your personal information in the following situations:

  • Vendors, Consultants and Other Third-Party Service Providers. We may share your data with third-party vendors, service providers, contractors or agents who perform services for us or on our behalf and require access to such information to do that work. Examples include: payment processing through the Aerospace Museum of California, the Yet Another Mail Merge (YAMM) email delivery service, and marketing efforts through Facebook advertising. This information is only collected if you or your affiliated school district use the service just described. We do not share, sell, rent or trade any of your information with third parties for their promotional purposes.

  • Affiliates. We may share your information with our only business affiliate and our fiscal sponsor, the Aerospace Museum of California, in which case we will require those affiliates to honor this privacy notice. As described above, the Aerospace Museum processes course registration payments and has access to student demographics through Echelon Catapult board reports. 

  • Other Users. When you share personal information or otherwise interact with other students through our courses, such personal information may be viewed by all users and may be publicly made available outside the class in perpetuity. Similarly, other users will be able to view your child’s name to communicate through Zoom chats or if they use Discord, and participate in your respective Echelon Catapult course.



4. WHO WILL YOUR INFORMATION BE SHARED WITH?     

We only share and disclose your information with the following third parties:

    • As explained above, the Aerospace Museum of California, our fiscal sponsorship organization, processes Echelon Catapult course payments.


Social Media Sharing and Advertising

  • LinkedIn advertising

    • On these platforms, Echelon Catapult will share students' success in the respective course and how our student teachers have developed over their time instructing. 

  • YouTube social plugins

    • All courses are recorded and uploaded to Youtube. When we record a course lecture, it notifies each Zoom user and prompts them with a popup. This popup gives the user two options, one to accept the recording, the other is to leave the Zoom meeting and notify the host. 

    • It is an option for the student to have their camera off.

5. DO WE USE COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES?

Echelon Catapult does not use cookies on its website (www.echeloncatapult.org).


6. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?

We keep your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this privacy policy unless otherwise required by law.

We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this privacy policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. We store your information in a permanent customer database for demographic, statistical, and communications services (like for future course notifications). 


7. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?

We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.

We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security, and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our course registration forms is at your own risk. You should only access the course registration forms within a secure environment.


8. WHAT ARE YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS?

You may request to have any of your data deleted or changed at any time.

9. DO WE MAKE UPDATES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY?     

Yes, we will update this notice as necessary to stay compliant with relevant laws.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated "Revised" date and the updated version will be effective as soon as it is accessible. We encourage you to review this privacy policy when you register for an Echelon Catapult course to be informed of how we are protecting your information.
